Jerusha Anne Blackmer passed away quietly on Thursday, July, 9th after a courageous battle against a long-term illness.
She was surrounded by those that loved her as she left this world to join her mom in God’s loving arms.
She is remembered by friends, new and old, as a caring and giving woman who always brought joy on tough days. That reaches back to the days when her parents and brother cared for overseas children brought to the US for life saving surgeries with the organization, Healing the Children.
Jerusha graduated from Evergreen High School as an outstanding academic student. She was a member of the orchestra as well as the color guard and cheerleading squad. On one occasion the cheerleaders met at a restaurant in Evergreen after the game, pushed the salad bar out of the way, and treated the patrons to a precision line dance of Achey Breaky Heart.
She originally attended Ft Lewis College in Durango, CO and then transferred to University of Colorado – Denver where she received her Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts and her Master’s Degree in Education.
Jerusha taught elementary school at Dupont Elementary in Commerce City, CO, and Elk Creek Elementary in Conifer, CO, before illness forced her to retire.
Jerusha was born in Oil City, PA on August 23, 1975. Her first home was in Titusville, PA before her family moved to Massachusetts and then Connecticut. In 1986 the family moved to Conifer, CO. She has moved several times with her daughter since then, but never left her beloved foothills.
She will be remembered fondly forever by everyone that her heart she touched during her time on this Earth.
Jerusha was preceded in death by her mother, Eileen M Ziegler (Morrissey).
