Bailey

John Joseph Stein, 62, of Bailey, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.

John was born on January 31, 1963, in Pennsylvania to Judy and Noel Stein. He grew up in Pennsylvania, where he graduated from high school and earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. He spent his early years hunting and fishing throughout the Pennsylvania countryside. A passion that stayed with him throughout his life.

In 1992, John moved to Colorado to pursue a career in custom home building and to explore the state’s vast wilderness. He married Mary Fifer, on October 1, 1994, at a small Catholic church in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Together, they settled in Bailey, Colorado, where they raised their family and built a life rooted in hard work and time spent outside.

John enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, or hiking with his family. Nature was where he felt most at home. He was a steady and dependable presence in his daughters’ lives, teaching them to appreciate the quiet beauty of the outdoors and the value of self-reliance. His humor never wavered, and his love for his family never faltered. He always said that having his two girls was the best part of his life. His influence will always be felt in the strength and independence he helped instill in them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Noel Stein.

John is survived by his mother, Judy Stein; his wife of 31 years, Mary Stein; his daughters, Ashley Stein and Amanda Stein; his brothers, Tom (Barb) Stein and Mike (Natalie) Stein; and his niece, Tori Stein.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2025, at The Barn at Evergreen Event Center, 26624 N Turkey Creek Rd, Evergreen, CO 80439, from 4:15 PM to 8:00 PM.
