Joshua James Matson

April 15, 1975 — March 15, 2026

Wheat Ridge, Colorado

Joshua Matson of Indian Hills, Colorado left his “space suit” as he called it and set sail on the river Styx on March

16, 2026, with two coins in his pocket for the boatman.  Born on April 15, 1975 to Ronald and

Regina Matson, Josh was the youngest of 6 children. He earned the name baby early

on with his siblings watching out for him.  Joshua was the 4th generation residing in

Indian Hills. At the age of 11, Joshua’s father passed away but not before instilling in Josh

self-reliance and a vast understanding of the woodshop. Josh had a knack for fixing things,

constantly accepting challenges.  Josh attended Evergreen High school in the

mid-nineties and later earned his GED.  In 2001, Josh married Mylissa and in 2010

they welcomed their child, Noah. Proud to be a Dad, he enjoyed the early years, teaching

their child the basics of a good foundation, enhanced with box fort architecture, artistry

in all its forms, caring for animals, plants, and the wild and beautiful outdoors. The

mountains and beauty of the world brought him much joy and he was excited to learn and

share his passion.  Josh and his mother, Regina excelled at

gardening, turning the backyard of the cabin into an enchanted forest with no space left

unattended. Josh and his family used their skills with stone masonry to create a grotto

among the pines.  Josh was identifiable at a distance a sniper

would envy, thanks in large part due to his waist length ponytail and trademark leather

jacket complete with furs he fell heir to from four legged highway casualties.

Each 4th of July, he would attach an air compressor to a salvaged tractor-trailer horn

and delight in making his presence known to his neighbors, with mixed reviews.

A talented artist, Josh was skilled with pen and paper, jewelry, ceramics, wood and

stone work. He frequently rendered his ideas corporeal, sometimes as an

archaic chimenea, other times a marble/alabaster progression statuette or Rube

Goldenberg-esq clockwork. A favorite piece of his was a progression from a

piece of solid maple turned into a 10 foot length of hand-carved interlocking chain.

He won multiple awards in juried gallery art shows for his one of a kind artwork.

In recent years, Josh was a handyman for Luebke Apartments fixing things inside

and outside. He enjoyed being able to do artwork in the course of his workday whether

it was painting cabinets, painting walls, or decorating the outdoors with his latest idea.

Josh was a staple in the community and was known to make everyone smile. He took

care of his elderly neighbors, making sure they were ok. During the winter months, the

community cherished the snow sculptures Josh would create with kids often following in

suite making their own. During Christmas, Josh would bring the community together by

singing Christmas carols with many chiming in. Christmas was a magic time for Josh and

he made sure it was magic for all those who were surrounded by him.

Josh is predeceased by his father and mother, Ronald “Matt” and Regina Matson. Josh is

survived by his child Noah, his ex wife Mylissa and his siblings Dave Matson (Karen), Ron

Matson (Beth), Donna (John) Williams, Dorina (Greg) Notz and Jason Matson. In

addition, Josh is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held May 16, 2026 at 11AM at the Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Josh may be gone from this life, but not from the hearts and minds of those he left behind.

We will be reunited again when we make the same journey to that far shore.
