Ken John Hudak

Kenneth John Hudak, 70, of Evergreen Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on July 18th, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 16, 1956, in Clifton New Jersey, Ken was the youngest of six children and grew up in a close knit, loving family. He graduated from Clifton High School and attended Western Connecticut State University, where he excelled on the basketball court. Ken still holds a scoring record at the University and was nicknamed “StringMusic” by the local newspaper for the unmistakable swishing sound his shots made.

After college, Ken built a successful painting contracting business, first in northern New Jersey and later in Colorado, where his hard work, integrity, and dedication earned him the respect of his clients and community.

While Ken loved his work, his greatest passions were found outdoors and with the people he loved. Fly fishing was his sanctuary-a place where he felt closest to God and at peace. Camping in the Rocky Mountains renewed his spirit, and the basketball court remained a place of friendship, competition, and joy throughout his life.

Ken met the love of his life, Lorri Moen, through Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. They exchanged vows at Saint Mary’s in 1983, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned more than four decades. In 1998, Ken convinced Lorri to move their family to Evergreen, Colorado, where they built a wonderful life together.

Above all else, Ken’s greatest priority was his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He delighted in passing along his love of fishing, basketball and camping to each of his three children, creating countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Lorri: his children, Daniel, Chris and Sarah VanCuren (Alex):his cherished grandson, Xander; his sisters, Kathy Costello (Harry) and Mary Waxmonsky (John, deceased); and his brother Bob Hudak (Louise). He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Bob Hudak: his brother, Andy; and his sister, Christine

He greeted everyone with a warm smile, kind words, and genuine enthusiasm. His energy was contagious, his generosity was constant, and his presence made those around him feel welcome. He will be loved forever, remembered always, and missed beyond measure.

One of Ken’s favorite quotes came from the film A River Runs Through It:

“But when I am alone in the half-light of the canyon, all existence seems to fade to a being with my soul, and memories and the sounds of the river…and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.”

Services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen, Co 11AM on July 29th, 2026 and Reception to follow
