Marcella Mae Wandersee-Johnson, 77, of Severance, Co., went to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 15, 2026, with her family at her side. Throughout her final weeks, Marcella continually expressed her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, saying daily, “God is good all the time!”
Marcella was born and raised in Rockford, Minnesota, where she had two daughters, Sheila and Sherri. At age 21, she moved to Colorado and lived for 44 years in the Conifer and Pine area, where she had her son, Richard. She moved to Severance, CO, 6 years ago to be near her youngest grandchildren.
Marcella was a woman of deep faith, creativity, resilience, wittiness, and compassion. Over the course of her life, Marcella devoted herself to many different careers and acts of service. She worked as a licensed beautician, a cashier, a school bus driver so her children could attend a Christian school, a mail carrier, and a Certified Nurse Assistant caring for terminally ill individuals, adults with significant needs, and the handicapped. She also offered her home and her services for 24-hour, 365-day care for many years by being a host-home provider for adults with special needs, and she lovingly cared for her elderly mother-in-law. Gifted with remarkable determination and skill, Marcella also built a home and remodeled twelve additional homes throughout her lifetime.
Marcella found joy in expressing God’s beauty through art. As a child, she loved drawing and coloring birds, and as an adult, she became especially known for bringing birds to life on canvas. She shared her artwork on Facebook and displayed pieces in local galleries. Her artwork earned recognition and awards throughout the years.
Beyond painting, Marcella enjoyed crocheting mittens, scarves, and hats to give away; sewing clothing, quilts, and dolls; gardening and plant propagation; birdwatching; completing puzzles; teaching herself musical instruments; listening to books to increase her knowledge; using her incredible talent to create, solve, and fix things; journaling her life story over many decades; taking long walks with her beloved dogs, Buddy and Bonnie; eating and living a healthy, organic lifestyle; posting for the unborn on Facebook; using her witt and sense of humor to make others smile and gain new friends; and spending time with her beloved family. Marcella touched the lives of many people with her quick wit, sense of humor, and her quest for knowledge about all things, and shared it with others so they could learn too. Above all, Marcella cherished going to church and reading the Bible as she faithfully walked with Jesus Christ. She also volunteered her time for many church ministries over the years.
Marcella’s greatest joy in life was her family. She adored all of her children and grandchildren. Marcella protected them, provided for them, and always worked her hardest to turn the sour grapes of life into wine. Marcella (aka Grammacella) always had some adventure up her sleeve when family arrived. “Ready, set, go”… off to the art studio or the great outdoors to explore, create, discover, and learn from her. All the while, she imparted her love for Jesus Christ and other tidbits of wisdom while playing together. All her children and grandchildren relished this time with her, and it will be forever imprinted on our hearts and minds.
Marcella is survived by her children: Sheila Farneth and husband Don Farneth; Sherri McDaniel and husband Scott McDaniel; Richard Nethery Jr. and wife Jennifer Nethery; and stepson Darin Johnson and wife Jennifer Johnson; and by former spouse Richard Nethery Sr. She was a loving grandmother and is survived by her grandchildren: Daniel Farneth, Joseph Farneth, Luke McDaniel, Sam McDaniel, Micaela Nethery, Malia Nethery, Evan Johnson, Ryan Johnson, and great-granddaughter Winnie Farneth. She is also survived by her siblings Stanley Wandersee, Vangie Volrath, Marilyn Wandersee, and David Wandersee. Marcella was preceded in death by her former spouses Robert Arens, Cliff Cockburn, and Rick Johnson.
Grammacella, we will forever cherish and remember your love for family, witty sense of humor, artistic spirit, perseverance, hard work, helping hand to the needy, and, most importantly, steadfast faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! You will be deeply missed until the time we join you in Heaven with Jesus and all the saints.
