Patrick Torrance Payer was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 14, 1966. His parents are Donald and Janet Payer. He lived in Pine, Colorado and sadly passed away at home on June 20, 2026 at the age of 59. He leaves behind a family that loved him deeply and a community that will miss him greatly.
Patrick lived his childhood in Ames, Iowa and enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and football. He often camped at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch and attended Camp Chief Ouray. In Ames, He owned and operated 2 businesses, Zap Arcade, and a Movie Rental store. After Patrick moved with his family to Colorado in 2008, he continued the YMCA tradition he grew up with, sharing it with his own family. He was a hard worker and entrepreneur that ran his own cleaning business alongside his son Jon, started a botanical business with Jon as well, and later purchased Java Groove in Evergreen, which he proudly owned for nearly 13 years. After retiring five years ago, Patrick was looking forward to a new chapter: helping his wife, Rhonda, redecorate their home and finally taking the trips together they had always dreamed about.
Patrick lived life fully and with passion. He loved skiing with his family and made a regular tradition of it. Disc golf was his true passion; he played constantly, competed in numerous tournaments, and took first place in many of them, dreaming of one day becoming a professional disc golfer. He was also his sons' biggest fan, loving nothing more than watching Brandon and Carson play sports, especially football, and was endlessly proud of all they accomplished. Rarely far from his side was his beloved dog and constant companion, Albert. Above all, Patrick was a man of deep faith, known by all who knew him for his great love for our Lord Jesus Christ; a faith that guided his life and shaped the way he loved those around him.
Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Hansen Payer; his sons, Brandon Payer and his partner Ariel Aurbeck, and Carson Payer; and his stepchildren, whom he loved as his own. Chris Wegner and his wife Jessie, Jon Wegner and his wife Nichole, and Alyssa Wegner and her partner Will Biggs. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lane Wegner and Waylon Biggs; his mother, Janet Payer; his sister, Christine Payer Hunziker; his father-in-law, Larry Hansen; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Russ Hansen, Cheryl Konopaski and her husband Kim, Tracy Hansen and his wife Starla, and Bonnie Wurzer and her husband David. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Payer, and his mother-in-law, Leona Hansen, and brother-in-law Gary Hunziker.
