Stephen "Steve" Robert Gross, born on March 21, 1963, in the Village of Hempstead, New York, passed away peacefully at home in Westminster, Colorado, on June 30, 2026. He was 63 years old.
Growing up in New York, gave Steve many childhood memories of stick ball games in the street, ocean fishing with his Uncle Artie, surprise road trip to Disney world, and living with his family, grandparents, Aunt, Uncle and Cousins even all under the same roof at a time. Scrapping with the three brothers and cousins John and Michael were a given, with one known screen door fatality.
In 1978 his father moved the family to Colorado for better opportunities. He was always active, with summers spent swimming in the above ground pool in his back yard or getting to ski in the winters. He attended Douglas County High School in Castle Rock where he was active in marching band, the highlight being able to play in the Rose Bowl Parade, even with his literal big head being a challenge fitting in the band helmet.
Steve earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado, and later proudly achieved his CPA certification.
In 1986, Steve met his wife Susan in what he called "Accounting Heaven" as he was the Staff Accountant and Susan was in Accounts Payable at a company located in beautiful Genesee Park. The two were married in 1988 spending their first year in Mesa,Arizona where Steve started his career paths of Budgets and Finances for various health-related industries eventually leading back home to Colorado. In 2001, wanting to use his skills in a ministry type position, he relocated his family to Illinois to work for Converge Midwest Baptist. There, he dedicated his expertise to supporting district and churches with unwavering commitment.
Faith and service were central to Steve’s life. He actively served his Lord through ministry support roles, including youth group leadership, church boards, men's quartet, and Elder positions. His devotion to his faith was evident in both his professional and personal endeavors.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Steve enjoyed participating in bowling and softball leagues (often two each season; one more competitive and one just for fun). He looked for any opportunity to golf with friends or his father-in-law and watched tournaments like the Masters and Open Championships. Sports were not only a pastime but also a way for him to connect with others and celebrate life’s joys like watching his Mets in the '86 World Series and the Rockies since their inaugural season.
Steve shared 37 years married to Susan Marie Swenson Gross and found immense pride in their children: Kevin Gross (Ashley), Lauren Schwabauer (Mike), and Skyler Gross. Steve cherished each Adoption journey that built the foundation of his family, with the experience of traveling to China to meet Lauren and bring her home having a big impact on him. He adored his grandchildren Zoe Gross, Alesania (Alice) and River Schwabauer, treasuring the time he spent watching them during school breaks.
He is survived by his mother Rita Gross; siblings Jimmy Gross (Connie) and their children Bailey and Alex; Michael Gross (Allison) and their daughter Dillon; Jeanne-Marie Gross; as well as extended family members who will remember him fondly. Steve was predeceased by his father Robert Gross.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 7, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Highland Baptist Church, located at 92nd Avenue. May Steve's memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
