Wendell Richard Huggins, 54 year resident of Evergreen, passed peacefully at home in his sleep early on December 24th.
Wendell was born in rural Iowa in 1934. He was one of 8 siblings, children of tenant farmers, and he lived on four different farms throughout his childhood. Wendell graduated from high school in Pulaski, IA in 1952.
After High School Wendell worked with paving crews, pipe liners and other odd jobs to put himself through college at Iowa State University, majoring in Industrial Engineering, and graduating in February, 1959. After college, Wendell served in the U.S. Army reserves before relocating to Colorado.
Wendell worked most of his career in the tunnel and heavy construction contracting business, and it was at work that he met his wife-to-be, Andrea, in 1967. Wendell and Andrea married and moved to Evergreen in December of 1969.
Wendell began investing in real estate in the Evergreen area right away, renovating old homes, and building others in Evergreen, Kittredge and on Floyd Hill. He began building Evergreen Industrial Park on Bryant Drive in 1996, and Evergreen Artisan Park in 1999 with a business partner.
